I was commissioned by the management team at Hirson Library, part of Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, to create an original artwork for Black History Month 2024. The library supports NHS staff, students, and healthcare professionals by providing access to knowledge, research, and creative learning resources — making it a real hub for education and inspiration within the Trust.
The piece, inspired by the theme “Reclaiming Narratives”, explores identity, heritage, and the power of storytelling through art.
If you told me a few years ago I’d be sitting down for my first artist interview, I wouldn’t have believed you. This "Meet the Artist" conversation, part of a special Black History Month 2024 commission, gave me the chance to share my journey — from childhood creativity to rediscovering art in my late 30s.
What began as a chat about my work became a moment to reflect on how far I’ve come and where art continues to take me.
The theme for Black history month 2024 was Reclaiming narratives.
